About your therapist

It’s nice to meet you,

I’m Jordan Markley, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Financial Therapist™. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2014 from Missouri State University. After years working with families in the foster care system, I went on to complete my master’s degree in social work in 2019 through the University of Missouri – Columbia. I have nine years of experience helping children, individuals, and families.

Since I strongly value personal differences, therapy and consulting services are individualized to meet your specific needs. I live in Springfield, MO with my husband, two wild children, and 2 dogs.

Whether you want help individually, with your partner, or raising financially savvy children, I am here to help you learn about the connection between your relationship with money, feelings and behaviors.

Why Financial Therapy?

The dollars and cents of financial wellbeing matter, but financial wellness requires more than knowing about income, debt, net worth, credit scores, and emergency funds. As I was growing up, my family did not talk about money. I had no concept of money management or how to leverage my money to grow wealth. I got the vibes that money was stressful, debt was good/necessary, and you absolutely do not talk about any of it. This led me to make some terrible financial decisions (hello, student loans, car payments, and credit card debt!).

I had my first child when I was 27, around the same time that I finished my Master’s degree. That really led me to think about money, my priorities, and my future differently. I dove into the world of personal finance, learning all that I could. I learned how to prioritize my money in a way that worked for my family and I, and the future that we wanted. The shame I experienced about money melted away, and I wanted to talk to anyone who would listen about how good it felt.

One day I was listening to one of my fave personal finance podcasts, and the guest on was a financial therapist. Um, WHAT!? Learning that I could merge my passion for personal finance with the work I was already doing as a mental health therapist was a game changer. We all have our own values and pictures for our lives. I want to help you not only figure out what that is, but put your money to work towards those goals in away that is manageable and you feel good about.
